Trial Report Lark Hill – August 30

Heat 1 – 3YO MDN – 950m

Informed Decision was able to lead from start to finish in the opening heat of the morning and record a handy win in his first outing back from a spell.  The Darryn Pateman trained galloper is the first named foal out of Braakensiek, who was a winner of two races during her career.

Hitting the line strongly in second position was Fighting The Blues from the astute Adam Durrant stable.  The baldy faced three-year-old was having his first outing back from a spell and he looks a type worth following. 

The third placed Flirtman had to be given a few reminders with the persuader by rider Andrew Castle and he responded well enough to finish the heat off well.

Time: 57.60 Margins: ½ Head x 2

Heat 2 – 3YO MDN – 950m

Jackson Rocks was ridden with aggression right to the line by Clint Harvey, but he was able to stick his nose in front at the finish and score a tough victory.  The Adam Durrant trained galloper has had two outings back from a spell for two impressive trial wins.

The Bob Mc Pherson trained Charmoss raced on the speed throughout the event, but couldn't quite match the late burst of the eventual winner Jackson Rocks and had to settle for second position.

Heat 3 – 3YO MDN – 950m

The well related Cockeyed Bob returned from a spell with an effortless all the way victory in the third heat, making it two trial wins from as many starts.  The son of Zentsov Street is the fourth named foal out of Communique, the dam of For Your Eyes Only.

Excessive made reasonable ground into second place for Clint Harvey, after racing just off the speed throughout the heat. 

Of the others, Matilda's Love was able to work her way into the clear and hit the line well enough in fourth position.

Time: 57.24 Margins: 3 ¾ x 1 ¼

Heat 4 – 3YO MDN – 950m

Promising type Leamington was able to lead from go to whoa in the fourth heat and score a relatively soft victory in his first outing back from a spell.  The Bob Mc Pherson trained galloper has shown above average ability in all of his three career starts and he should be able to break his maiden status this time in.

Return To Rio challenged Leamington below the 150m mark, but he couldn't match his finishing burst over the final 100m.  The David Harrison trained galloper was having his first outing back from a spell and you would expect him to improve following his first up performance. 

There was a fair margin back to the third placed Pride, who was doing his best work over the concluding stages.

This was the quickest heat of the day.

Heat 5 – 3YO MDN – 950m

Rise My Baby was able to settle just behind the speed for Takahide Ikenushi, before showing a good turn of foot in the home straight and record an impressive debut trial win.  The David Harrison trained galloper is the second named foal out of Don't Say Halo mare Rising Traders.

The second placed Foxing wasn't asked to do a great deal over the concluding stages by rider Ryan Hill and he battled on well under little pressure. 

Both Smitheringale and Uproaring Girl were doing their best work over the concluding stages, despite being placed under pressure from their respected riders.

Time: 58.51 Margins: ½ x 1 ½

Heat 6 – 4YO & OVER MDN – 950m

Truly Special was able to settle just behind the speed, before gaining an inside passage and bursting through to take out victory in the sixth heat of the morning.  It was the first outing back for the daughter of Jeune, who is now in the care of Grant Williams.

The David Harrison trained Pearly Girl had to be shaken up when finishing in second position for Danny Miller, after she raced in the lead throughout the heat.  It was the first outing back for Pearly Girl, who was well beaten in both her race starts last campaign.

The third placed Dychroic was never asked for his best effort in the home running, when having his second outing back from a spell.

Time: 57.65 Margins: ½ x ½

Heat 7 – 4YO & OVER MDN – 950m

Lynsted Rose was able to fight off all challengers in the home running and score an ok victory in the seventh heat of the morning.  The David Harrison trained galloper is out of Lyme Regis, the dam of Wingate Street and Port Regis.

Classical Minx was always near the speed for Ben Kennedy and he battled right to the line, finishing in second position. 

Of the others, Space Dreaming worked home reasonably well for Duncan Miller, when having his first outing back from a spell.

Time: 58.37 Margins: ¾ x Long Neck

Heat 8 – 4YO & OVER MDN – 950m

Metal Talk recorded an effortless victory in the eighth heat of the morning, when having his second career outing.  The son of Oratorio is the first named foal out of Recall A Storm, a winner of six races during her career.

The second placed Spanish Sky was having her first outing back from a spell and she performed reasonably well for Takahide Ikenushi.  The Sharon Taylor trained mare was failed to show a great deal during her first campaign, but she seems to have returned in good order.

Time: 56.97 Margins: 3 ½ x ¾

Heat 9 – 4YO & OVER MDN – 950m

South Boulder Boy was able to put his nose in front right on the line and record a handy win in the ninth heat of the morning.  The Liz Strempel trained galloper was having his first career outing and he looks to have above average ability.

Dane Amour raced well when finishing in second position for Peter Knuckey, having her first outing back for over a year.  The daughter of Lord Dane is the fourth named foal out of Bon Amour, the dam of Bon Vieux, Tri Amour and Bon Amour.

Time: 57.46 Margins: Nose x ½

Heat 10 – 4YO & OVER MDN – 950m

Toba Lad ran his rivals ragged in the tenth heat of the morning, recording his first trial victory in his second outing back from a spell.

The second placed The Dark Side ran on well for Chloe Chatfield, but he was placed under pressure over the concluding stages. 

Time: 57.38 Margins: 1 ½ x 3

Heat 11 – 3YO & OVER – 950m

The Ron Ives trained Oviate was able to work into the clear below the 150m mark and sprint past the leaders quickly and score a top win.  The daughter of Orientate only had two starts during her last preparation before she was sent back to the paddock.

In second place was Birkhall from the Bill Chilsolm stable.  The big striding galloper was having his first outing back from a spell and he lets ready for another profitable campaign.

Of the others, both Dantello (3rd) and Brandy Lane (4th) ran to the line well enough to suggest they can win a race or two this campaign.

Time: 56.68 Margins: 1 ½ x ¾

Heat 12 – 3YO & OVER – 950m

The Greg Carige trained Spekkey came with a well timed run down the centre of the track to record an ok victory in the 12th heat of the morning.  Spekkey was having his second outing back from a spell and he showed great improvement.

Now Red was only a short ½ head back in second place, after he too came from a midfield position on the home corner.

Charging down the centre of the track into third place was Brookemebaby, who was having her first outing back from a spell.

Time: 56.74 Margins: Short ½ Head x Short Neck

Heat 13 – 3YO & OVER – 1450m

The John Bow trained Gunner Burns had to be ridden right out to the line by William Pike when recording a narrow victory.  Gunner Burns is yet to win a race in 11 previous race starts, but he has been placed on three occasions.

Acute Brute was never fully extended by Ryan Hill when finishing in second place, after racing on the speed throughout the event.

Running on strongly into third place was Bow Road for Kyra Yuill, after the Bruce Watkins trained galloper was well back during the heat.

Time: 1.32.31 Margins: Neck x ½
